Q: How does using a BIN checker help with business?
A: Doing a BIN check, or using the bank BIN can help
you:
- Determine is the card is MasterCard, Visa, AMEX or Discover
- Determine is the card is a Debit Card or Credit Card
- Determine the name of the card issuer - Bank or Processor
- Determine the bank's phone number or fraud phone number to
call
Credit card BIN lookup is key to fraud prevention.
Need to exclude certain countries from placing orders for your

cart to the BIN database file to automatically run the credit card BIN
against the Bank Identification Number Database every time.
If you don't export to Cuba from the United States due to government
restrictions, you can exclude most cards issued
with a Cuban billing address automatically with a BIN check.
This database is how your favorite rental car agency determines if a card is
a debit card or credit card, and if it was issued in the U.S. or
Canada or elsewhere.
Q: Can I use the results to charge customers additional fees?
A: Bank Identification Numbers are key if you want to charge customers different
fees for using credit vs. debit cards.
Some merchants will find when
they take any credit card or debit card issued outside of the US
there are extra fees. Some merchant accounts will also charge
a premium for business credit cards vs. personal credit cards.
If you have a merchant account arrangement like this, doing a credit
card BIN lookup, or setting your automated system based on credit
card bin ranges can help you to assess proper fees and ultimately
shift the cost to the foreign cardholder.
The BIN-IIN database will have all known MasterCard BIN ranges, all
known VISA BIN ranges, American Express BIN numbers and Discover BIN
numbers at time of publishing.
Q: Are all BIN numbers in the BIN-IIN database?
A: No. Most, but not all known BIN numbers are in the BIN-IIN
database and we are always looking for new
bin numbers.
Visa BIN numbers from the Visa Interchange Directory and MasterCard
BIN numbers from the Mastercard Member Directory are added when
available.
Q: Do all BIN numbers in the BIN-IIN database contain complete data?
A: Most, but not all data is supplied in all
circumstances. Not all entries have a phone number, credit or
debit denotation, country of origin, or bank name although every
effort has been made to make the database as complete as possible.
Data statistics are published on percentage phone number and number
of U.S. entries only, and not every BIN number listed has complete
data available. In an effort to provide as much data as possible,
incomplete entries are included if partial data is confirmed.
Q: Are all Credit Card BIN Databases the
same?
A: No. The BIN-IIN, bank identification number list is independently
compiled and differs from other lists in quality and accuracy.
The BIN-IIN database is compiled and distributed by a U.S. company.
Bank BIN numbers, credit card BIN numbers, and debit card BIN
numbers are provided in text format for every known credit card
issuer, including American Express and Discover Card.
Some BIN databases exclude and include Visa BIN numbers, MasterCard
BIN numbers, American Express BIN numbers or Discover BIN numbers,
but the BIN-IIN database has them all.
Q: What do you mean by private use?
A: You can use this database to develop into your own company
software, like a gas pump, online shopping cart, rental car software
or just use the BIN database as a straight file to search records
one at a time.
You cannot use the database to publish, or provide the data to the
public.
The information is designed to help merchant prevent fraud by
providing security phone numbers for code 10 authorizations or
suspicious activity or to help determine the card type, such as
Debit or Credit and cannot be sold or redistributed under the
license.
Ordering online via PayPal is
considered agreement to the terms of service and refund policy and
the data provided may vary based on card type, country or issuer. No
one data type or individual BIN or IIN is guaranteed to be found in
the BIN-IIN database.
Q: I tried a credit card BIN search on
the BIN-IIN database and the bank BIN came up, "not found."
Why was my Visa BIN not found?
A: Most, but not all credit card BIN search results will be found,
but not all credit card bin numbers are listed. VISA BIN ranges or
MasterCard BIN ranges that are not in the BIN-IIN bank
identification number list can be added in exchange for a reward.

additional verifiable BIN number you provide that is added to the
issuer identification number database, we will pay $0.25 each.
